Weekly assignment format

Here's what I expect you to do each week:

  1. Read the textbook chapter for that week and listen to the listening examples.
  2. Use the study questions, listening guides, and list of terms and concepts on the weekly assignment page to review.
  3. Take the quiz for that week. The quizzes are essentially open book, since you do them on your own in the labs, but studying for them and then taking them as quizzes will be good preparation for the midterm and final. The questions on the midterm and final will be drawn from the weekly quizzes, and the midterm and final are not open book. The quizzes will be brief and cover the most important information and listening goals for each chapter. This way you will have enough time to write well. The quiz will also include a few questions on that week's Hacker handbook topics.
  4. When you have completed the weekly quiz with 100% correct, the writing prompts will be included at the end of the quiz response page. You can try the quizzes as many times as you need to.
  5. Choose one of the prompts and begin writing your 1-page essay. Bring the draft to your class meeting for that week.
  6. At the class meeting, you'll have a chance to ask questions about anything you don't fully understand, and we'll listen to the music.
  7. At the next class meeting, the final draft of your essay is due.
  8. The "Notes" section reminds you of upcoming events in the class schedule.
