Hao Huang

Dr. Hao Huang is the Bessie and Cecil Frankel Chair in Music at Scripps College, who has served as USIA Artistic Ambassador on several overseas tours to Europe, Africa and the Middle East. His scholarship includes numerous published articles in refereed journals in England, Hungary, Greece, China, Japan and the USA, that span piano pedagogy, general music studies, popular music, ethnomusicology, jazz, anthropology, American Studies and Humanities; also encyclopedia entries, a book chapter, and two professionally produced CDs. His research has been recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Washington Post, The Wilson Quarterly and National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.” Dr. Huang was a Fulbright Scholar in American Studies and Music at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest in 2008. He is currently appointed to the roster of the Fulbright Specialist Program for a five year term. Huang was recently awarded a 2012 NEH Teaching Development Fellowship, “Bridging Cultures”, one of 9 granted out of 218 applications nationally. Huang holds a baccalaureate from Harvard, a masters degree from the Juilliard School and a doctorate from StonyBrook University (SUNY).
