James Bennighof

James Bennighof is Professor of Music Theory and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Policy at Baylor University.  He received the BM from the University of Richmond and the MA and PhD from the University of Iowa.  He taught at Baylor from 1984 until 2005, and began serving as a vice provost in 2003.  He has published books on the music of Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell in the Praeger Singer/Songwriter series; articles and reviews on set theory, theoretical systems, and vernacular music in the Journal of Music Theory, Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, College Music Symposium, American Music, MLA Notes, Ramblin’ on My Mind: New Perspectives on the Blues, and the International Dictionary of Black Composers; and a dozen choral compositions and arrangements with Oxford University Press and Heritage Music Press.
