Richard K. Fiese

Richard Fiese is Professor in Music Education at Houston Baptist University and held senior appointments on the faculties and graduate faculties of the University of Miami and the University of Houston. He is co-author of the Handbook for Preparing Graduate Papers in Music (first and second editions), A Systematic Guide to Error Detection for Conductors, and author of five music education monographs: Texas Music Education Research Priorities; Texas Association of Music Schools: Survey Summary; Connections, Contacts, and Collaborations: Arts in Education; Status of Music in the Public Schools in Florida; and A Profile of Florida All-State Instrumentalists. He was an invited contributing author to Spotlight on Assessment in Music Education and Spotlight on the transition to teaching. He has authored over sixty published articles that appeared in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Band Research, Music Educators Journal, Perspectives in Music Education Research, Texas Music Education Research, Southwestern Musician, Florida Music Educator, and Early Childhood Connections. He was a reviewer for the New Handbook of Research on Music Teaching and Learning, and served as editor of Texas Music Education Research and Perspectives in Music Education Research. He is also an editorial reviewer for the Scientific Journal International. Fiese is an active clinician and consultant with more than one-hundred presentations throughout the United States and South America. His current research area relates to the influence of worldview on music education policy, music education philosophy, and music teacher education.
