Richard D. Green

Richard Green is Professor Emeritus of Musicology at the Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Prior to his retirement, he was for six years chair of the Music Department at Miami, and prior to that was the Director of the School of Music at The Pennsylvania State University since 1998.  Before moving to Penn State he was Associate Dean of the School of Music at Northwestern University, where he was on the musicology faculty since 1976.  He completed the PhD degree at the University of Illinois and continued studies in musicology at the Technische Universität in Berlin, Germany, with Carl Dahlhaus for four years.  The recipient of several research grants, including the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, he has conducted research on German music of the 19th century in various archives in Europe.  He has presented lectures in Germany and in the US to many professional organizations, including American Musicological Society and College Music Society, NASM meetings, and various civic organizations.  Green is the author and compiler of three books, including an Anthology of Goethe Songs, and has written numerous articles and reviews on music of the 19th century and music bibliography.  He has received awards for excellence in classroom teaching.
