Ericka Tyner Grodrian

Ericka Tyner Grodrian is Assistant Professor of Music at Valparaiso University where she teaches applied horn, chamber winds, musicianship, and performance courses. A doctoral graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, she also holds music degrees from the University of Alabama and Converse College. Her DM final project focused on the use of opera excerpts in current American horn pedagogy. Her opera excerpt website Beyond the Short Call, an outgrowth of that research.

Dr. Grodrian won her division of the 2010 Susan Slaughter Solo Brass Competition in Toronto. She especially enjoys performing in chamber groups that explore interesting instrumentations and perform new works. Recent collaborations include performances with Masterworks6 and Bell(e) Collective brass ensembles, work on three new commission projects, four world premiere performances, and the USA premiere of Roberto Pintos' horn concerto. Beyond solo and chamber performances, Dr. Grodrian has also appeared with numerous orchestras throughout Indiana and the Southeastern United States.
