Virginia Sublett

Virginia Sublett, soprano, has been a principal artist with opera companies throughout the United States and in France, including the New York City Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and L'Opéra de Nice. She has appeared frequently as soprano soloist with orchestras, oratorio societies and chamber music ensembles throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including such groups as Los Angeles Philharmonic, Mainly Mozart, Illinois Symphony, Vancouver Chamber Choir, and Pacific Symphony. Particularly at home in music of the 17th and 18th centuries, she has appeared with numerous period instrument ensembles, among them the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston and the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra. She is also in demand as a soloist in repertoire of the 20th Century and often has been featured in concerts of new music.

She holds a DMA in Contemporary Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego and is now an associate professor of music at North Dakota State University, teaching applied voice, opera theatre, and voice-related academic subjects.

Her students have been featured soloists with the Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Opera, Orquestra de Baja California, and the Festival de Homenage a Augustin Lara, and have appeared as choristers with Opera London and the London Philharmonic Choir. They have gone on to graduate programs at USC and Australian Catholic University, Melbourne, among others.
